DESCRIPTION
Inspired by The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, this combination of varied images and textures encourages conversation with play for a group of four.

Size
Approximately 45cm x 45cm (all layers cut 47 x 47cm)
Materials
- Plain fabric on top
- Any fabric or fleece on back
- Thin wadding if needed
- Use contrast colour thread in bobbin to highlight quilting on back
- Green, red, yellow and orange fabrics for leaf (9 x 14cm), strawberry 13 x 11cm), banana (18 x 6cm) and orange (10cm diam)
- Ric rac or cord for caterpillars
ORDER OF ASSEMBLY
- Prepare orange, strawberry, banana and leaf for applique, using Vliesofix or equivalent. Cut out shapes and iron onto top fabric. Use a pencil to mark “holes” approximately 1cm diameter on fruit and leaf.
- Assemble all layers.
- Use satin stitch to sew around the fruit and leaf.
- Stitch around the holes with straight stitch. Cut the hole using a seam ripper and scissors (like a button hole), then stitch with satin stitch.
- Add wormy shapes
- Trim and bind the quilt
