DESCRIPTION
Imagine a fidgety child quietly engaged whilst listening to a story or needing to stay still, as they pick at the edge of the ric rac, or twirl the cord.
PLEASE REFER TO THE TECHNICAL INFORMATION BEFORE COMMENCING
Size
Approximately 35cm x 45cm (all layers cut 37 x 47cm)
Materials
- Any fabric for top and back
- Thin wadding if needed
- Cord, 5mm rayon or cotton
- Ric rac, at least 10 mm wide
ORDER OF ASSEMBLY
- Assemble all layers
- Pin the ric rac in a curvy shape so the child makes fairly big movements with fingers.
- Before stitching the ric rac pin several lengths of cord under the ric rac, with at least two “long” ends.
- Sew the ric rac down the middle only, with two rows of stitching. This allows for a child to pick at the edge.
- Sew the cord in between the ric rac, using two rows of stitching or zig zag.
- The cord’s long edges are “whipped” with strong thread or embroidery cotton (a skill I learned in Girl Guides MANY years ago).
- The short ends are allowed to fray as another fiddle element
- Trim and bind the quilt
