DESCRIPTION
What do you get when a discount store has 10 pairs of shoelaces for $1? An echidna, a cheetah and a zebra of course. Most children will be intrigued by this quilt, and enjoy playing with the “quills”.
PLEASE REFER TO THE TECHNICAL INFORMATION BEFORE COMMENCING
Size
Approximately 35cm x 45cm (all layers cut 37 x 47cm)
Materials
- Gaberdine on top with a contrast stripe pieced/sewn across it diagonally in Wildlife 1.
- Fleece fabric on back – the gaberdine/fleece combination is very stable.
- Shoelaces – at least 10 per quilt
ORDER OF ASSEMBLY
- The strip of orange fabric was cut 12cm wide and the edge ironed under with a varied width to give it a wavy edge (keep it straight if preferred).
- The shoelaces are all cut 4-5cm from the end for the quills.
- Pin lines of shoelaces in place for the zebra stripes, stitch with zig zag
- For the cheetah’s spots cut about 10 lengths of shoelace 12-15cm long.
- Place as circles in a random arrangement, with the ends butting up or overlapping. Stitch with zig zag, and firmly stitch across the open ends (this looks a bit rough but adds to the texture).
- The quills are placed so that they face all directions, and stitched firmly across the open end (see back of quilt).
- Trim and bind the quilt
