Dancing Rainbow

DESCRIPTION

A tactile and rhythmic stimulation to discussion about rainbows, colours, materials and textures.

PLEASE REFER TO THE TECHNICAL INFORMATION BEFORE COMMENCING

Size

Approximately 35cm x 45cm (all 3 layers cut 37 x 47cm)

Materials
  • Light coloured fabric on top so the various colours and textures stand out
  • Velour or fleece on back
  • Thin wadding if needed
  • Wide range of ribbon, ric rac, fabric and cord in the six rainbow colours.
  • The wide yellow strip in Dancing Rainbow 1 is vinyl, and I had to place a piece of greaseproof paper over it whilst sewing so the sewing machine foot would move smoothly over it.
  • Have fun varying the layouts – the children will enjoy them being “wonky”and will puzzle over the why and how.

ORDER OF ASSEMBLY

  • The back of Dancing Rainbow 2 makes a feature of joining up 3 smaller pieces of velour.
  • Use pencil to lightly make guide points on the front fabric as per diagram below. As seen in the examples, they are a guide only, as it adds to the dancing movement to be flexible in placing the lines.
  • Assemble all layers.
  • Pin the coloured lines in place and stitch.
  • Trim and bind the quilt

Looks a total delight for the child. Tactile and also fun.
I can see this working well with any child of any developmental level.
